Well, that story arc is finally over. Honestly, I think it came out pretty good. Not perfect, mind you; far from it. But it’s still better than the previous one I did with El Catrin.
That all being said, I’ve decided to do something. After each story arc I finish (yes, I’m planning to do more), I upload a "behind the scenes" sort of thing. Basically, I upload the original ideas I had for the arc, why some weren’t used, and just talk about some random trivia associated with the arc. Why? Because I personally like finding out about how certain things came to be, or what could have been. That’s partly why I like reading script drafts. I can’t be the only one and if someone who’s like that is reading these Riffs, I want to give them a bit of a treat. If you don’t care about these things or the arc, then ignore this.
Anyway, let’s start with the original outline, and what was changed. I basically just numbered some ideas I had in the order of the way they were supposed to appear in the arc. If I remember correctly, I numbered it by day it’d be uploaded. So now let’s take a look at said outline:
Zorax arc:
1: Dorkpool and Mirror Dorkpool meet. Mirror Dorkpool agrees to work with Dorkpool to stop Zorax.
2: Mirror Dorkpool is introduced to Indometus and Doomsayer. They’re both a tad pissed that they weren’t told about the new addition to the crew, but Dorkpool tries silencing their protests by saying that he had to.
3: Dorkpool and Mirror Dorkpool train together, and come up with a plan. A bit of each of their backstories is revealed. Indometus and Mirror Dorkpool try working together a bit, while Doomsayer is still rather wary.
4: A ship under Zorax’s control attacks the Cheese Doodle. It’s fought off, but everyone’s spooked because they thought Zorax didn’t know where they were. Mirror Dorkpool helped fight off Zorax, which helps prove that Dorkpool might have been right, and helps Doomsayer trust him a bit more. However, this ends by having Mirror Dorkpool say to an unknown person, "It worked. They believe I’m going to help them."
5: The Cheese Doodle crew confront El Catrin, who’s still in confinement, about whether or not he contacted Zorax. El Catrin says, "No," and mentions that Mirror Dorkpool is new, and maybe he’s why Zorax found them. Mirror Dorkpool denies it, but El Catrin insists that it wasn’t him, and must be Mirror Dorkpool. El Catrin also says some less than nice things about each of them, including things he’s found out from Zorax that none of them want revealed. During the night, someone kills El Catrin. All security cameras were disabled, so no one knows who it was.
6: El Catrin is found dead in the morning, and an investigation is commenced. The computer, MAJEL, is called in to help, since she’s obviously not the killer. Doomsayer is also called in, since he was cleared early on.
7: The clues end up piling up, and point to one of the Dorkpools. By the end of the post, Doomsayer is killed.
8: Doomsayer is found dead, and before anyone can do anything, dozens of ships under Zorax’s flag decloak and attack, and Mirror Dorkpool stuns both Dorkpool and Indometus.
9: Dorkpool and Indometus are imprisoned for a bit (which is where Dorkpool is able to get out his Riff) and are soon brought before Zorax by Mirror Dorkpool. Mirror Dorkpool explains that he killed El Catrin and Doomsayer, and sent out their location to Zorax. Why? He knew Zorax would be of more help in conquest. However, once he finishes telling this to Dorkpool and Indometus, Zorax takes out a sword and kills Mirror Dorkpool. Zorax explains why: he’s killed every other Dorkpool and Zorax in the multiverse, or at least made sure that they died. Why? So that he could have the honor of killing every Dorkpool for defying him. He challenges Dorkpool to a final fight. Dorkpool asks if he can do a Riff first. Zorax agrees, and lets him
10: This post starts with a bit of a recap of what happened last time. After the Riff, Dorkpool and Indometus come up with a plan to defeat Zorax. At the end of the post, Dorkpool is called to fight Zorax.
11: Both Dorkpool and Zorax get swords, and start fighting. Dorkpool makes a joke or two about preferring a bat’leth. Zorax mentions that Dorkpool could’ve been his successor, the one to take up his mantle. Dorkpool says that he doesn’t regret not taking up that mantle. The battle ends up going Zorax’s way, until Indometus attacks Zorax. She gets quite a few good hits in, until Zorax is able to cut off her arm. Right before he’s about to kill her, Dorkpool stabs Zorax through the chest, killing him. Dorkpool decapitates Zorax, and takes the conqueror’s head before his armies. They all realize Dorkpool killed Zorax, and disperse. Dorkpool asks for a medic, who helps Indometus by giving her a robotic arm. Dorkpool ends up getting back Zorax’s body, but misplaces the head. He vaporizes the body, and goes on his way.
The head was taken by someone else, planning to recreate Zorax. Who and why? We’ll find out later.
As you can tell, some things were changed. Let’s talk about the biggest thing changed: Mirror Dorkpool as the traitor. Yeah, I originally planned it to be that way, and the Doomsayer reveal I decided a bit after I started using Mirror Dorkpool as a character. So, why wasn’t he the traitor? Simple: I enjoyed having a character around that Dorkpool could Riff with (in case anyone’s wondering, the reason why Indometus doesn’t do any Riffs is because she doesn’t think it’s her thing. Also, Indometus is based off a girl I used to date, but dated at the time I came up with the character, and that girl was a fan of things like "Jeff the Killer." I figured that would also apply to Indometus, so there’s that), and I enjoyed writing the character. I didn’t want him to end up being the traitor, and having to die. I therefore decided that either Doomsayer or Indometus should be the traitor. Honestly, Indometus seemed like an appealing character to make the traitor since, as I said, she’s based off an ex-girlfriend, and it’s kind of awkward writing her now. I don’t remember why I decided Doomsayer should be the traitor instead, but that’s what ended up happening.
Next, let’s talk a bit about the random ship under Zorax’s flag attacking the Cheese Doodle. I think I forgot about that plot point when I wrote the arc, or maybe felt I had no idea how to put it in the arc.
Also, there’s the "multiple ships decloak and attack" thing. I didn’t go that route because I wanted to get rid of El Catrin and help reveal the identity of the traitor. Also, I like Star Trek 2. KHAAAAAN!
Now, the "imprisonment" part was something I considered doing, and perhaps laying the groundwork for the next arc, but then decided that I wanted to end it sooner, and on the weekend. I didn’t want to extend it for another week. So that got cut.
As for the ending, where Indometus gets her arm cut off, there’s a fun fact I’d like to mention about that: I had considered having Dorkpool have his arm cut off during the fight with Zorax. I kind of feel that the fight betwixt the two as it ended up made Dorkpool seem way too powerful. Hence, robotic arm. But I decided against it because…yeah, I’m not quite sure. I just decided not to do so. And as for Zorax’s head, I didn’t have that part included because the next arc doesn’t have much to do with him (at least with what I’m planning), and because Dorkpool didn’t decapitate Zorax.
However, quite a bit was kept from the original outline. Go figure.
Now, I’d like to talk a bit about Mirror Poison. Why did I include her? Well, Poison and I are close friends, and we ended up coming up with the whole Mirror Universe thing for these characters. However, the characterization for some of the characters changed. For example, Mirror Dorkpool was originally an arrogant asshole who thinks he’s so awesome. Mirror Poison was supposed to be rather nuts and obsessive. Yeah, those ended up changing. I’d also like to explain a bit of my belief on this version of the Mirror Universe: it’s not a universe where everything good is bad, and vice versa. It’s just that some circumstances changed, and people act a bit differently. Just because normal Dorkpool is smartassey doesn’t mean Mirror Dorkpool can’t be. Also, the reason why Mirror Dorkpool makes references specific to our universe despite being from a different one is because he researches this stuff. I actually considered mentioning that in one of the Riffs at one point, along with a shoutout to AGrim, but decided against it because it felt too much like I’m advertising. That being said, take a look at AGrimAuxilitrix1’s work and Critiques. Here’s a link to her profile on the Creepypasta Wiki: http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/User:AGrimAuxiliatrix1
On another advertisement-esque note, I mentioned contacting Linkara in one of the Riffs. Yeah, that’s not a total joke. I actually emailed him and asked if he wanted to do a Riff crossover (I also explained Creepypasta to him, not realizing that he’s well aware of it. I found that out later when watching one of his "Kommandi At Earth’s End" reviews, where he made a joke involving "Candle Cove". Oops). And he actually responded, saying that he’s busy, but he might be up for it at some point. So that’s pretty awesome.
I’d also like to address the "dead alternate Dorkpools" thing. I really wish I did that better. Maybe have some posts on Blahcrap where that Dorkpool mentions that he’s being stalked or something. Oops.
Also, before I decided on having Mirror Dorkpool, I thought about having Dorkpool ordering a "reboot button" from DC after Riffing some bad Batman Creepypasta or something. But I eventually decided on having Mirror Dorkpool, and thus we got what we got.
I’m going to end this Behind the Scenes Ramble, but before I do, be ready for the next arc. It might make you a bit…tired.
